Mike Jones, Washington Times: "During a timeout with just under nine minutes left in the game, Stevenson’s guest of honor, Soulja Boy — the one-hit wonder James had compared Stevenson to — was put up on the big screen and danced to "Crank Dat." Stevenson came out from the intermission and knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers, bringing the crowd to its feet." (Update: D.C. Sports Bog with the video.)
Cavalier Attitude: "LeBron looked like he had the game won by just showing up and doing his chalk clap right in the faces of the Washington faithful. Yeah, he’s amazing. But it didn’t look like winning Game 3 was on his agenda on Thursday night. The body language showed it. The pregame and one-man theatrics seemed more important. In the closing seconds, it didn’t look like LB was concerned that he was on the business end of a nationally-televised pounding."
Michael Wilbon, The Washington Post: "Eddie Jordan has to be credited for taking a chance. He didn’t just make the usual playoff adjustments coaches make. He ripped his players apart. "Tore them down and built them back up, which is sort of risky this time of year," Jordan admitted afterward. "I read them the riot act. Showed all the things they did wrong. And the next two days we told them how great they were."
Patrick McManamon, Akron Beacon Journal: "The Wizards merely outplayed the Cavs. They put the shenanigans on the shelf and just played basketball. They didn’t try any ridiculous fouls, didn’t clobber anyone unnecessarily. They ran their motion offense, and won the game going away."
Tom Knott, Washington Times: "For all the hosannas that have been tossed in the direction of James, it was easy to forget that the Wizards are not equipped to be successful if scoring fewer than 90 points, as their 3-17 record in the regular season attests."
Terry Pluto, The Plain Dealer: "The Cavaliers have had games like this where they seemed to step on the court and act as if they never had met each other before. There are passes to the right when a player breaks left. There are balls dribbled off feet, shots banging hopelessly off the side of the rim. Even more discouraging, there are timeouts that seemed to lead to nothing more than a good ol’ GMA — as in General Milling Around. Players sort of move, but not exactly sure where they are going. No one takes charge of the offense and attempts to set things up."
Les Bullez: "This Wizards team won this game due to defense. Their defense was the best I’ve seen in years. They were all over the place. Of course, hitting shots on the offensive end helped a lot, since they were finally able to get into defensive sets instead of chasing a Cavs team on the fast break."
Brian Windhorst, Akron Beacon Journal:
"The Wizards do this cool thing where they honor injured troops from
Iraq who are recovering at nearby Walter Reed hospital. But while they
were on the scoreboard tonight, one of the soldiers took off his
prosthetic leg, poured beer into it and started drinking out of it. Um,
it was quite disturbing to me." (WHAT!?!?)
